Despite some of its misses, Firefox still matters. Mozilla is pushing companies to be more private, and its key product is different at its core. The browser market is dominated by Google’s Chromium codebase and its underlying browser engine, Blink, the component that turns code into visual web pages. Microsoft’s Edge Browser, Brave, Vivaldi, and Opera all use adapted versions of Chromium. Apple makes developers use its WebKit browser engine on iOS. Other than that, Firefox’s Gecko browser engine is the only alternative in existence.
“This market needs variety,” Willemsen says. If Firefox diminishes further, there’ll be less competition for Chrome. “We need that difference for open internet standards, for the sake of preventing monopolies,” Willemsen says. Others agree. Everyone we spoke with for this story—inside and outside of Mozilla—says having Firefox flourish makes the web a better place. The trick is figuring out how to get there.

Download and start using Firefox if you don’t already, I made the switch back to Firefox after not using it for years and being a chrome person until 2020 and have never regretted it

firefox is so amazing.  Seriously.  If you haven’t, give it a try.  At the very least, you can watch youtube videos with 0 (zero) ads.

so is no one going to talk about the fact that mcdonalds basically took over the mcdonalds wiki for a promotion about grimace's birthday and had fandom wiki remove the admin's ability to prevent vandalism and edits to the wiki and now it's entirely just a corporate advertisement despite admins working on the wiki to make it updated and accurate for the past 8 years

yeah it looks like this now

remember everyone: fuck Fandom, use breezewiki

skinny disabled people you have a duty to not be fatphobic to disabled fat people or just fatphobic period. do you have any fucking idea how horrible it is to be disabled trying to get a diagnosis and having everything blamed on your weight. do you know how anger inducing it is to have every single (and yes i mean EVERY SINGLE) symptom blamed on weight. the worst part of it is trying to receive community support and seeing so many chronically ill/disabled people push fatphobic rhetoric and be openly hostile to fat disabled people. you arent cripplepunk if youre fatphobic.

fun fact: firefox can get around many "oops you already read 3 articles this month" paywalls very easily

step 1: click the reader mode button in your address bar

the right edge of a firefox address bar. the reader mode icon, which looks like a tiny little page with some writing on it, is circled in red.ALT

step 2: f5

that's it! that's all the steps.

Scrolling through the comments makes me want to say:

there‘s a difference between saying “generationally traumatized characters are queer” (which is not true) and “I connect with this because my queer experiences relate to the fictional character’s struggles with being perfect and complying with expectations or standards”

(I am not a poc)

We can tell

if you tell your kids you love them they WILL use pronouns

not to be joyless but I’m honestly reeling from how mask-off this comment is

“if i show my kid unconditional love they might do shit like be trans, better emotionally abuse them instead”

good tags only

Honestly it’s like the parents who don’t vaccinate because they’d rather have a dead kid than one with autism.

this is stupid but I genuinely worry that kids ARE being priced out of video games like. totk is heavily sanitized to maintain a particular rating that often works against itself but like, I struggle to imagine the kid who's approaching their parents like "one hundred dollars for a video game please" my biggest gaming triumph was in high school when my parents bought us an xbox 360 and one game. we got the wii as it was going out of style and played primarily gamecube games on it, and even back then to buy a new gamecube game or a DS game was a twenty dollar endeavour. what kind of slideshow does a ten year old have to present in order to convince their parents to drop a hundie on legend of zelda.

Like listen 1) do you think game devs are being paid proportionally to video game price hikes. Looking around at the state of games in the past couple years and all the unionization efforts, do you think that's accurate? Do you think game devs are getting residuals for video games they worked on while nintendo continues to collect 101 CAD for every copy of breath of the wild? and 2) whether or not I was spot on correct about every quoted price and can produce receipts from 2006 isn't the point. The point is that if I waited a year after a release I could buy a secondhand copy of most games but all switch physical copies are brand new and far lower in circulation than games that ONLY came in physical copy. Nintendo games don't go on sale. Kids generally aren't as adept at emulation if they understand how to do it at all, and teaching the parents to do so is not a valid strategy because there's a million reasons why a parent couldn't do so and even more situations where they just wouldn't even if they knew how.

Where's walmart's huge bin of old switch games? Where's the huge wealth of physical copies for indie games for countries where they can't rely on a digital download (and that's you too America!)? What WAGE is a child getting to save up money for a single hundred dollar video game on their own, because my point is that a lot of parents are going to outright reject a hundred dollar purchase in MAY and kids have no means to compensate for that themselves, even the ones who can expect decent Christmas and birthday dollars? Kids play shit like Fortnite and Genshin not because they have worse taste than us, but because those are the games they can afford to play! And it's death by a thousand cuts because 100 1$ purchases are easier to ask for than a hundred dollars outright for a brand new video game when most parents who aren't deep in the paint on gaming still assume that they can wait for a price drop.

I should note a different Missouri near total adult ban was also taken out

So if you're reading about these bans, and you're scared where you live or that you can't travel/move to different parts of America, remember these bans are legal nonsense and failing in court over and over and over again

it's fathers' day. I saw a similar post like this for mothers' day, and I thought it would be important today too.

this post is for everyone whose fathers walk the line. everyone whose fathers aren't quite abusive and cruel but aren't quite compassionate and caring either. everyone whose fathers are gentle some days and terrifying the next. everyone who wonders if their fathers are really that bad or if they're just ungrateful. everyone who is torn between loving and hating their fathers. everyone who is torn between cutting contact and trying to talk things out. everyone who has been told over and over again that they're lucky they didn't have it worse. everyone who doesn't know quite what to say today. everyone who finds themselves in the grey area that we normally see as being one or the other.

you are seen. you are heard. you are not alone. what you feel is real. take care of yourself and stay safe.

You can literally make anything and anyone problematic if you try hard enough seriously give me people and things and I’ll make them all “problematic” right now.

I don’t even have to do this one because PETA did it first by insinuating domestication is inherently abusive.

The sky

Used to trick and mock anyone who asks “what’s up?” A bullying tactic.

Super Mario Bros.

Stereotypes Italians, enforces the narrative of women who need men to rescue them, and encourages violence against turtles.

John Mulaney

He was over on the bench and he SAW what they did to Tyler and he did NOTHING.

Pokemon

Making your pets fight repeatedly is animal abuse.

OP literally argued that dogs were problematic but go off I guess

This is a work of art and should be sent to everyone as soon as they sign up for Tumblr so they know what they’re walking into
